CITY SEARCH SAYS: Now that Williamsburg's trustiest dives have turned into outer-borough destinations, this alternative regular-guy, no-cocktail-list hangout may be just the thing. Situated inside a former print shop (unfortunately without a trace left behind), the sporty, pub-like place has characteristic wooden booths, neon beer signs and a TV over the bar. Elevated, cushioned wraparound seating arrangements add a little extra comfort for groups. A jukebox, pool table and outdoor smoking area in back make it easy to hang out for a while, and the reasonable prices--$5 for top-shelf mixed drinks--make it even easier. Happy hour, everyday from 3pm to 9pm, brings deeper discounts on domestic and imported bottles, drafts and well drinks. The crowd is sparse, but that helps distinguish this not-so-distinctive bar from the rest of the pack.
From Shecky's
"A big, airy space with exposed brick walls and large, raised booths, the only original feature this former printing shop retains is its name. Formerly owned by the mob, it's hard to say exactly what draws hipsters and neighborhood folks alike to this unpretentious watering hole. It could be the 10 bottles and 12 drafts they serve, the occasional live music, or the smoker-friendly outdoor garden. But most likely it's that this is a straightforward, inexpensive place to drink, roomy enough for large groups but also great for those nights when you just want to go out solo."
